Probably already been asked but I'll ask you this question anyways. Your glasses. Where are they from? Oh and do you need them for sight purposes or do you just like to wear glasses?

Unfortunately, my Ira Glasses are very real.  So real, in fact, that the salesman suggested I pay to upgrade my coke bottle lenses to something a little thinner.  (I did)

I bought the glasses from SEE, a wonderful eyewear boutique that sells their in-house line of fun and funky frames.

“Watch out, the yellow ones don’t stop!” —

Buddy, Elf

(This quote is dedicated to my friend Cary who had a very unfortunate run-in with a taxi this afternoon.  I just so happen to know a thing or two about cab-collisions- no good, I say!  Get well soon babe!)

February 2010

new friends, old friends and very old friends

Last night was one of those nights were worlds collided.

A collision filled with joy….think bumper cars!

We went to the bar to meet up with some buddies, but the circle of friends quickly expanded to included people we couldn’t have imagined spending our evening with.  Cheers to chance encounters!

Friends (by way of family): Very awesome cousin Katie was in town for the weekend.  She came over with her buddy Jodi for happy hour and burgers on the grill before we rolled out.

image

Friends (by way of work):  There are no words for how inviting my coworkers have been since starting at New Job two months ago.  This is a great group of girls.  I sure like spending my days with them.

image

Friends (by way of College): On my way to the ladies room, I ran right into a friend Northwestern..from my sorority.  We did our secret handshake (no we didn’t).

Turns out, Julie reads my blog!  (I am always so surprised…excited…when people I know IRL visit my little site)

It was great catching up with her about life as a new lawyer, impending family planning and her husband’s thoughts on my post, Is Technology Ruining Your Relationship!

Go Wildcats!

image

Friends (by way of High School): Once I finally made it to the bathroom, I spotted a girl I know from our hometown.  She mentioned that she was at the bar with some other kids who went to our HS.  I didn’t know any of them…BUT, as it turns out…these were Simon’s BOYZ from back in the day.  Simon lit up when he saw his buddies.  It has been years.

Hearing stories about their high school shenanigans…literally, a BLAST from the past.

Our night wrapped up around 2am.  (Who are we?!)

And I may or may not have gotten in trouble from the cab driver for trying to sit on my husbands lap on our ride home.

Good fun.

Do you have a favorite website (or two) for raw recipes, and if so, which recipes are your favorite(s)?

I absolutely love Gena over at Chosing Raw.  I visit her site daily, regardless of whether I am eating raw or not.

While she publishes wonderful recipes and food photos, I find myself attracted to her blog because her enthusiasm and commitment to conscious eating is contagious.  I always feel a renewed sense of excitement about living foods after reading her posts.

When I feel myself making poor choices (cough, caramel corn)…Choosing Raw is where I go to recenter myself.

Definitely worth checking out!

Hey Emily, what are the best tennis shoes for running outdoors? I have Nike Shox right now and they are HORRIBLE (seriously, just awful) for running. I'm looking to upgrade soon. Any suggestions?

Oh, Nike shoes are a disaster to run in.  You need a proper pair of running shoes!

You should go get “fit” to find a shoe that will enhance your performance! Go to a specialty running store (Fleet Feet, if you are here in Chicago) and let the professionals assess your pronation/gait and make a tailored recommendation.  This doesn’t cost any extra, and I promise it will make ALL the difference in your run.  (Plus its kinda fun…they will likely have you take the shoes for a test run).

Personally, I am partial to Saucony and Mizunos, but I still get re-fit with every new purchase…just to be sure I am in the right shoe for me.

Dinner (and Dancing) with Lucy!

image

We enjoyed another Friday night out with Lucy Schlatterbeck….and her p’s, Mike & Mo.

We checked out “Beckett’s,” a newish Irish Pub rated high on the scale of “Irishness” by the RedEye.

A bar named after an absurdist playwright?  I am so in….Fish&Chips, cozy fireplace, book lined walls and really great company.

Ms. Lucy was, by far, the most popular girl in the pub…impressing absolutely everyone with her sweet dance moves (you have to adore a girl who won’t let a little thing like a lack of a dance floor stop her from getting down!)

[NOT] Creepy Tumblr Stalker

Back…up…that….Bus:  That was totally me.

I so wish you would have said hi!

I am sure I would have chased down the stranger you nearly took out and begged him/her to snap a pic of us!!!

(Lesson Learned: If you read my blog and introduce yourself, photos will be captured.  And hugs will be given.)

allidoiswatchthesky:

Yup, that’s me. Because I spent a full minute gawking at a girl taking a phone pic of the city lights on the Dearborn bridge trying to decide if it was Emily of Emphasis Added (99% sure it was).  I stared, walked past her, stopped, almost turned around to say something, almost bumped in to another person and then continued on my way. Oh Tumblr community, how you make me even more awkward than normal.

In which we keep a secret...

In response to this quote from my post yesterday,  “Thank you for holding us accountable.  You kicked my ass when I deserved it..and covered for me when I needed it (One word: Cancun).

Dad: What happened in Cancun?
Mom: Not enough time has passed.

(Oh boy, is she right!  Not enough time has passed to tell that story…not even close.)

Help me shop...please?

I desperately need new layering tanks….but I am not sure where to shop.  And so I turn to you.

Here is what I am looking for:

  • White tank top with thin straps (not racer back or wife-beater cuts, I want something with old school spaghetti straps)
  • The tank MUST be longish. (***This is the most important criteria!  Right now all of my tanks are shorties that I try to tug down when paired with skinny jeans or leggings, but I want a tank that naturally hits me at about upper-mid thigh)
  • Fitted but not so-fitted that my breathing is restricted
  • I reeeeally don’t want to spend mucho dinero on new tank tops that will only be worn under other garments.  I know James Perse and Theory both have great layering pieces, but there has GOT to be cheaper alternatives, right?

Come on tumblr….please help!

Where can I  find the perfect, longish, layering tank at a non-offensive pricepoint?

Please say you have a head to toe of your date night outfit. That picture of only your supercute top is a tease!

Thanks Julie…I am so sorry, but I was a bad blogger and failed to get a single photo of my outfit!

What?  Why?

Honestly…my closet is a duh-saster area right now and I didn’t have time to clean it and snap a photo of my ensemble.  (Sorry!)

(If it helps, here is a somewhat clearer shot of the deep-V, faux-wrap shirt from when I wore it out earlier this year.)

Last night, I paired the Akira top with my Ever Jeans, Slouchy brown boots from DSW and some F21 bangles and hoops.

Mangoes, plums, yellow-bags of goodness from Lush, a stupid argument with Simon (my fault), errand running in up-north neighborhoods, venti coffee, coconut oil, sneakers and Ira Glasses.
