weekend awesomeness // a post in 4 parts
I. New England Clam Chowder*
In early December I posted about a secret password. If it is actively snowing outside the windows of Rotofugi and you whisper “let it snow” at checkout, the vinyl enthusiasts behind the counter will extend you a 10% discount on your entire purchase.
Saturday was a cold wet-one, but we had a slew of baby errands to run so we were out in the weather....
Showered by the In-Laws!
This weekend, Simon and I packed up the car and headed to Southern Illinois for our final Baby Shower….a soiree thrown by my girl cousins on Simon’s side.
(Side Note: Being the oldest of a large family meant never having cousins my age, but I married into this really awesome group of girls and it has been such a joy going through weddings and babies together. Not to mention, they are...
For sale: baby shoes, never worn.
– Earnest Hemingway
In the 1920s, Ernest Hemingway’s colleagues bet him that he couldn’t write a complete story..with a beginning, a middle and an end in just six words. This story was his response to their challenge.
Hemingway is said to have considered “Baby Shoes” his best work.
So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is...

I’m totally grapefruit (it’s the new ba-na-nas) over jewelery and accessories that mix gold and silver. Bonus points if it involves spikes. Don’t mix metals when it comes to jewelry has long ranked up there in the fashion rule world with no white jeans in winter, but to both those rules I say pshaw!
Here are a few pieces that add a...

Camilla Belle in Gucci Spring 2011 // February 12
how crazy hard Camilla rocked it out in this right off the runway ensemble.
So much envy.
A lot of the time you see runway looks that just can’t or won’t translate well in real life. This had potential to be one of those because it’s...
Showered!
This weekend, my Aunt Marla (godmother extraordinaire) hosted truly wonderful shower for Baby Girl! Aunts, Great Aunts, Grandmas, Cousins and several of the peeps from the Children Choir I used to work with came over to celebrate my almost-daughter. The thing about pregnancy that has surprised me the most hasn’t been the fact that I manage to walk around with a large cantaloupe...

[another delightful idea from Dallas Clayton]
Anonymous asked: A lot of people buy shoes from DSW because it's all they can afford. I think your comment was a bit snobby about how you only bought shoes there because you are pregnant. I totally understand the non-stylish comment, but it came out sounding like you would never shop at DSW except you needed a pair of shoes for a weekend. I bet there are a lot of people who would love those shoes but...

“But during a teleconference with meteorologists from Chicago area media outlets, there was such outcry over the weather service’s decision to lower the total snowfall from this year’s blizzard that the decision was reversed. “You...
a magic trick
last night
Simon came into the room and I was twirling in circles.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“I’m bored.” I said “I thought spinning might be fun. Turns out it’s not.”
& then we laughed hard. The hardest i’ve laughed in a while.
and all of a sudden i wasn’t bored anymore.
