I. New England Clam Chowder*
In early December I posted about a secret password. If it is actively snowing outside the windows of Rotofugi and you whisper “let it snow” at checkout, the vinyl enthusiasts behind the counter will extend you a 10% discount on your entire purchase.
Saturday was a cold wet-one, but we had a slew of baby errands to run so we were out in the weather. One of the more fun stops on the agenda was a trip to Rotofugi for some nursery decorations (and perhaps a few Dunny’s for ourselves). When it was our turn to pay…I leaned in, all covert like and whispered the password.
Their eyes light up. My eyes lit up
and I swear, you would have thought I won the lottery when suddenly our bill was 10% less than just a moment before. Simon and I high-fived and the dude behind the counter gave us an approving nod and big thumbs up. I love saving money….and I REALLY love knowing secret passwords, so this little exchange totally made my day!
(* Name this quote! ”Whats the password” // “New England Clam Chowder” // “Is that the Red or the White” // “ah I can never remember that”)
II. Dinner Date with Cousin Katie
We sort of forgot that it was restaurant week, so when I called for a 6:30 Saturday reservation at Quartino just a few hours before dinner we were flat out declined. ”Try your luck as a walk-in” the hostess suggested.
So that is what we did.
As we walked in, husb encouraged me to stick out my belly in the hopes of scoring a sympathy seat. It totally worked!
We nabbed corner table in the bar and enjoyed a fantastic dinner with Cousin Katie. (Hi Katie!) We had a blast, but as we wrapped things up and said our goodbyes around 8:00, I couldn’t help but think how much tamer our night was (and how much rounder I am) than the last time she visited.
III. A Very Sexy Target Run
Shoe Rack? Check
Paper Towels? Nursing Pads? Laundry Detergent? Check, Check, Check.
I realize none of these things are necessarily glamorous , but I was pretty turned on by my husband pushing this cart filled to the brim with domestic goodness.

IV. Walk Baby Walk
If pregnancy was a marathon, this weekend I more or less hit “the wall.”
I mean this in the most sunshiney way possible….but am officially and completely over it and just so ready to get the show on the road. I ache in ways I didn’t know possible and no matter what I do, I can’t manage to find even a modicum of comfort.
But as I learned from long distance running, just when you feel like you can’t go any further, you have to break it up into smaller goals: Put One Foot In Front of the Other.
So, instead of spending the day in bed (which may have crossed my mind), I decided to lace up my sneaks and walk it out….Headphones in, Music up, Miles moved. While my gait was really more of a waddle than an actual power walk, I have to admit I felt much better after my all-afternoon outing (not great. but better)
When the going gets tough, the tough get walking.
