Hazel has discovered the world of books!
Where she used to be more interested in grasping for my nose than the bedtime stories I read her, over the past few weeks hazel has begun examining each page carefully… moving her head back and forth as she reviews the large-font letters and supersaturated illustrations.
She then runs her hand across the book looking for texture or something she can chew on.
She also tries to turn the pages…but more often than not she accidentally flips the back cover closed, then looks to me for help.
The other day, an aggressive looking peter pan shot out of a pop-up book and scared her half to death.  Hazel let out the saddest little whimper which quickly escalated to a full-blown cry.  We put that book away for later, much later.
Right now Hazel’s favorite books are the titles in the Touch the Art series (which is convenient because I am in LOVE with these books).  There are 6 books total…including Pop Warhol’s Top & Feed Matisse’s Fish.  Each book centers around famous works of art and incorporates touchable elements on each page (like in this picture, feathers for wings!)
Reading these books has become one of our favorite activities.  We talk about the art (that piece is grandma’s favorite!) and the artists (van gogh was a crzy mo-fo) and all the places we could go to see the works in person (oh hazel, you should see the Louvre!)…
Who say’s bedtime stories can’t be read in the morning too?!
