On Monday GoodJob brought in Dr. Oz to speak to the employees about living our best life.
…a lunch meeting with Dr. Oz?!  V. Cool.
He was speaking in our California office, so the peeps here in Chicago dialed into the video conference to get the famous doc’s tips  on wellness.  He gave an incredibly engaging speech talking about how his history as a cardiac surgeon is what inspired him to get involved with HEALTH instead of just HEALING.  Heart disease takes many years to develop and  by the time he was seeing patients- they had been making decades of poor choices that got them to his operating room.  He needed to get involved sooner. He wanted to help PREVENT these diseases. Dr. Oz said the single greatest predictor of heart health was not what number you see on the scale, but the number of inches around your waist.  Abdominal fat is a risk factor for metabolic syndrome, which dramatically increases the risk of heart disease.  Stomach fat is bad fat.  You waist measurement should never exceed half you height  [For Example….I am about feet, or 60 inches tall, so my waist must remain under 30 inches.  Pregnancy not withstanding.] When asked about a magic pill, Dr. Oz praised the power of baby aspirin.  Baby Aspirin are effective in reducing heart disease, cancer….and might even help minimize the appearance of wrinkles.  He said these low-dose aspirin act as both blood thinners and powerful anti-inflammatory drugs and suggested you take two a day.  [I ran out that night and picked up a bottle of 1,000 pills for Simon!] Finally Dr. Oz gave us 5 Rules to Live By. He asked that we share these 5 rules of health with those we love.  So here it is…. Dr. Oz’s 5 Rules for Health
Get your blood pressure to 115/75.
Do not smoke cigarettes.  Ever.  & Avoid toxins while you are at it.
You need to get 30 minutes of exercise every single day.
Find a healthy diet that is easy-to-love.
Control your Stress.
Sounds easy enough, right? Three Cheers for a healthy heart & healthy life.
