Thursday Night (& Friday Morning) in The Office
First stop of the night: My company holiday party
and then…to The Office. Not my office, mind you, but the 16 seat, by-invite speakeasy, hidden below The Aviary (next door to NEXT.)
We arrived at around 9:30 and were greeted by friendly (handsome!) faces. Cheeks were kissed and our coats were whisked away.
Then, with a hushed tone and knowing smile, they invited us downstairs.
Would you like to join us in The Office?
There is nothing we would love more. Thank you.
Andrew (bro-in-law), Simon and I followed Marlon (manager) down to the unmarked metal door and with a turn of his key found ourselves back in the coolest room in the city (country?) It is a dark, masculine, intimate space…
sexy as all get-out.
The type of room where conversations flows easily and secrets feel safe to share.
The type of room where hours feel like moments.
If I could stop time, here is the place I would do it.
Perhaps it was the allure of my cognac & vanilla bean
or maybe we were just excited to have a night of togetherness with no real curfew (Z was sleeping over at grandmas!)
but as we cozied into the cracked leather couch tucked back in our private corner, there was a tacit understanding…
There was nowhere else we would rather be.
We drank our way through the menu (The Tequila, Grapefruit, Horseradish, Ginger, Sea Salt concoction was my favorite)
and ordered decadent late night snacks: Stunning Wagyu Beef Tartare, Strips of Iberico Ham and Oysters on the Half Shell served with an assortment of Tinctures like smoke, curry and green peppercorn infusions.
We arrived as a group of 3 but the party felt much fuller. Our buddies from next door (NEXT) stopped by to visit.
I like them. So much.
And I couldn’t have scripted a better end to our night:
In the NEXT kitchen with Chef Dave and GM Will, talking….laughing.
It was the best.
It must be said, this is my favorite corner in the city.
NEXT, Aviary, The Office
A staggering amount of talent…and care… under one roof.
I love it here.
