Last night was the Tony Awards…a high holiday in my home.
While I am not as nearly connected to the shows (or the community in general) as in years past, I always enjoy seeing old friends and new talent up on that stage.
There were several highlights for me in last night’s telecast:
Watching my buddy Bruce win for “Best New Play.” (He has now brought home the Pulitzer, Olivier and Tony…not a bad year, eh!)
When Jessie Tyler Ferguson tried to step in to be the adorable NPH’s understudy
And of course, this (see photo)…The moment James Earl Jones heard someone else’s name called for “Leading Actor in a Play.”
You have a truly shocked (and deserving) James Corden trying to keep it together before accepting his awardPhillip Seymour Hoffman and Frank Langella with a look of accepted defeatJohn Lithgow expressing what might be genuine happiness for his fellow actor (worth noting: John Litgow is possibly the nicest man in the world)
And then there is Darth Vadar, looking very very….er, confused.
Recognized or not, there was some great art made this year. Now, go see a Broadway play!

One day I will be sitting in the audience watching my daughter walk up onto that stage. She begins Marymount Manhattan...
