Garbage day normally falls on a Tuesday, but because of Columbus Day, it was pushed back to Wednesday this week….
Meaning Hazel has been on “Garbage Truck Watch” for the past 24 hours.Looking out the window every few minutes with her eyes growing wide each time an engine rumbled down Clark Street.
Yup. Garbage Trucks are my daughter’s newest obsession.Buses & Garbage Trucks(Where does she come up with this stuff?)This morning, while playing in her room, we heard the unmistakable beeps of an approaching garbage truck.  And I had an idea…  One of those ideas that never in a million years would have registered as a good idea before becoming the mother to a toddler with this affinity for oversized vehicles
Hazel…want to chase the Garbage truck?!
Based on her reaction, you would have thought my girl had just won a lifetime supply of licorice or a trip to Disney World!  She literally put her hands to her cheeks and screamed.
Hurriedly, we grabbed our boots & her best friend piglet and went bounding down the stairs Christmas-Morning-Style to see the Trash-Eater up close!
Once outside, Hazel waved enthusiastically to the garbage men and said “Good Job” to the truck each time its automated arm lifted/dumped one of the trash bins into the compactor.
We followed (a safe distance) behind the action for the entire length of our block.  20 minutes or so.The novelty did not wear off.
Before pulling away, the driver told Hazel - “we’ll see you next week”And she replied: OK.
I guess we now have a standing weekly date with the sanitation team.
Simple pleasures, my friends.
